Full day tour of Siena

This is a full immersion in the MIddle Ages, exploring the main attractions of the Siena Unesco site and focusing also on some world famous artworks such as the frescoes by Simone Martini in the City Hall.

We start at the Basilica di San Domenico, where the relics of Sainth Catherine from Siena are kept and we walk then along the former pilgrimage road called "Via Francigena" to the main square "Piazza del Campo", where the Palio horse race takes place twice a year. Here we find the imposing City Hall, the biggest Gothic palace in Italy. The building houses the civic museum, where you can enjoy the world-famous fresco of the Maestà by Simone Martini, with the Madonna and Child Enthroned, surrounded by Saints. This represents one of the main examples of how highly the people from Siena were devotee of the Virgin Mary.
After a lunch break we continue to the hill where the striped Cathedral stands, to enjoy the several masterpieces that are kept inside.
