On the Gladiator Road in Val d'Orcia
Easy and scenic hike starting from Pienza, Renaissance ideal city where the Pope Pius II was born in 1405. Walking on the main road, named after the Florentine architect that worked on the new layout of the city, the monuments and the many pecorino cheese shops will be a feast to your senses and eyes.
We'll walk down to the Romanesque parish church of Corsignano and from there to the famous winding trail dotted with cypress trees that we can see in Ridley Scott's, "Gladiator" movie. A panoramic loop on the clay hills of this beautiful area will take us back to our starting point.
